Golf

This is a golf themed 1/4 sheet chocolate cake covered in vanilla buttercream. I used a grass pastry tip to decorate the top and around the bottom. The "green" is fondant, the water hazard is blue corn syrup and the sand trap is graham cracker crumbs.

Coca Cola Cake

Here is another version of the soda cake. This time I decided to make the ice cubes clear and add a drizzle of colored corn syrup to make the effect more realistic. I liked the finished product much better than "Stella's Diet Pepsi Cake", which can be seen in my archives.

For those unfamiliar with NKOTB, it stand for New Kids On The Block. They were the original boy band from the late 1980's. I must admit that I was a huge fan, so I was pretty excited to get this order. Rich devil's food chocolate cake with chocolate cherry filling.

I'm Stumped

If you happen to be a logger you might recognize the special radio lying next to the tree stump in this photo. For those who aren't so into forestry, that little red radio is a way of communication for those in the timber business. This is a birthday cake for "Dan" who repairs radios like that pictures; the real ones, not fondant! The cake is chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling, decorated with fondant and buttercream. Even the mushrooms are fondant, dusted with a little cocoa.

Run for your life!

My children attend Riviera Christian School. Each year they hold an auction to earn money for school programs, classroom supplies and scholarships. At the 2009 auction I donated one of my cakes. The family who purchased the cake was looking for a volcano cake with a beach theme. It may be hard to see in this photo, but I added a small aluminum foil cup to the top of the volcano which held a little dry ice to make it smoke!

Desserts is stressed spelled backwards!

Recently, I was asked to prepare desserts for a local cafe. I made a variety of dessert bars, cookies, cake balls! Below are some simple dessert bars, from left to right, brownies, oatmeal raspberry squares and lemon bars.
Pictured below are Nanaimo Bars (left) and cake balls (right). Nanaimo bars are a type of no-bake chocolate dessert names after a city in British Columbia, Canada. Cake balls are a decliciously moist cake filled truffle.
Baking and spending time in my kitchen has always been a great way for me to relieve stress. The next time you are craving sweets, take a look in your pantry, and crack open your favorite cookbook. You can always freeze your treats to have a quick dessert when guests arrive.

Happy Birthday Chloe!

My oldest daughter, Chloe, celebrated her 8th birthday over the weekend. We went swimming, had a few friends over for cake, and a sleepover. It was great. Chloe had the chance to create some new flavors with me for her cake as well. The swimming pool cake was a cherry confetti cake with a cherry vanilla filling. It was yummy!
